Betfair Host Charity Poker Tournament For Thor Hansen
Wednesday February 08, 2012
Thor Hansen, the player considered by many to be the godfather of Scandinavian poker, recently received the devastating news that he has cancer at the age of 64.
Now living in America, the poker community has since rallied around the player to create the Thor Hansen Fund - which will help pay the Norwegian's huge medical bills - Betfair Poker are keen to aid their cause by hosting a one-off charity event.
The Thor Hansen Charity Tournament will take place this Thursday at 21:30 CET and will feature a buy-in of $1 + $10 with one $1,400 Betfair Poker Live package added to the prize pool, which will see the winner take part in BF Live event of their choice.
In terms of the distribution of cash, $1 will go towards the prize pool for every player registered, while the $10 tournament fee will go towards the Thor Hansen Fund and Betfair Poker will double all non-prize fund cash collected up to the value of $2,500.
Players will also be able to take one optional rebuy of 1,500 chips during the first three levels for $1 and one add-on of 3,000 chips at the end of the rebuy period for the same price, with all of this money going straight towards the tournament's prize pool.
"We are delighted to help out Thor at this time," said Betfair Global Poker Marketing Manager Asko Heiskanen. "I hope other operators across the industry join us to raise as much money and awareness as possible for one of pokers most well-loved players."
